REQUIEM is a true autobiography of a young man who grows up with a paranoid schizophrenic mother who believes the devil desires her children's souls.  Immediately opening up with an exorcism, you witness the dark world of a sixteen year old boy as he struggles to deal with horrifying acts of physical and sexual abuse, familial violence, self-destructive choices, murder attempts, and rape well into his young adulthood.  Against all odds, the protagonist perseveres and chooses to reveal all his family's darkest secrets, as well as his own.

MY NAME IS Fredy Espinoza--that is to say, Fredy of the thorns, or better yet, protected by thorns. Every family has a dark secret, even the picture-perfect ones. My family has many. These white-sepulcher secrets disguise themselves as decrepit skeletons, forever entrenched in whispers lingering in unkempt closets. They are drenched in crimson blasphemous sin--dripping with ghastly splattered blood--and one would be wise to keep them silenced in the guttural scream of shattered memories. I choose to unveil these treacherous secrets that have haunted me for so long.
